Galveston College in Texas overbilled the state at minimum $700,000 and possibly $1.4-million for instruction since 2000 that was never given, state officials have found, according to an article in The Galveston Daily News.
Auditors also found that the college awarded students in a GED program college credit and associate degrees for taking remedial courses. The district attorney in Galveston released the findings of the audit after determining that criminal charges won’t be filed because poor record keeping appearuddy to be to blame. —Jeffrey Selingo
